So what now?

So, my doctor suggested intrauterine insemination or IUI. That is where you take a sperm sample and wash and clean them and make them all presentable and shoot them up in a uterus so they can be closer to the egg! It just increases the chance of getting pregnant. At this point, this procedure was about a 20% chance of me getting pregnant.

We tried IUI three times...Three strikes...I was out. I had at least two good eggs EVERY time! I was defeated and devastated and hormones were crazy, I was on several of the below drug combinations:
  • Clomid (pill) and Ovidrel (shot) which triggered my ovaries to release eggs
  • Follistim (shot) that stimulated my follicles
  • Progesterone (pill) that helped prepare my uterus for the fertilized egg.

All of these drugs made for one emotional Lisa. Poor Matt.

At this point he suggested In-vitro fertilization or IVF. My insurance covered all of the above but it did not cover IVF. And, IVF can range from $10,000 - $15,000 a TRY! Sooo...with me working in non-profit and Matt being a youth pastor, that wasn't a realistic option at the time. So, I took a few months off.

I finished progesterone last Thursday and am waiting to start the Clomid... haven't started my "cycle", yet, though.... I haven't had a "cycle" since March. Thanks for sharing all this Fink... I truly admire your openness.
